English emergency glasses
Jun 28, 2011
Our client Adlens, established in Oxford, specializes in universal, continuously adjustable glasses on the basis of fluid-filled lens technology and the Alvarez principle. Adlens Emergensee is a type of glasses with adjustable lens power that can be changed any time, which makes them ideal for emergency use during large-scale disasters such as earthquakes and floods, but also for personal emergency situations such as a lost or broken pair of everyday glasses. The Adlens Emergensee provides the user with a pair of glasses which can be adjusted to the correct lens power within a few moments, without the intervention of an optician. Pezy has supported Adlens in various ways in its development of these unique glasses.
In collaboration with its partner Promoac, Pezy produced functional models of the original design of the Adlens glasses, which could not be distinguished from the real ones. Parallel to this, Pezy generated and elaborated an alternative design. On the basis of a user insight test the definitive, properly substantiated concept choice was made, after which Pezy continued to be closely involved in the further design and development of the concept. To keep time-to-market as brief as possible, a large part of the product release was put into effect by means of rapid tooling products.
The intensive collaboration with Adlens in combination with our integral approach between designers, developers, test engineers and our toolshop has led to an attractive, well producible product that meets all the requirements, and with minimum modification costs. Several companies worked on the hard tools and production resources, while Pezy was involved in guiding the whole process until the very last moment.
